About Me

My name is Rachel. In addition to being a high school student who loathes high school, I am a reader, writer, Nerdfighter, Potterhead, Shadowhunter, and kinda/sorta Whovian (I have a complicated relationship with Doctor Who at the moment). I enjoy participating in passionate discussions about literature, binge-watching entire seasons of television shows in one weekend, and buying books I most likely will never read.

I've been writing for most of my life, but it wasn't until I was about thirteen that I started to get serious about it. Since that fateful moment when I realized I wanted to write for fun instead of just for school assignments, I have considered myself a writer. I participated in NaNoWriMo for three years in a row during my freshmen, sophomore, and junior years of high school, and I have impressed many an English teacher with my angsty adolescent poetry (just kidding...no one was impressed). The summer after junior year, I attended the Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop. This workshop changed my life. It inspired me to create and live and write, and it's the spark that ignited the flame that is this blog. After attending this workshop, I have become much more confident and serious about my writing, which is why I'm making an effort to write frequently and share my writing with the world.

When writing, I tend to focus on novels, although I have yet to actually finish one. I'm making an effort to write more poetry and short fiction and other non-novel pieces of writing so that I can actually finish them and feel accomplished and also be creative and open-minded and experimental.

In the future, I hope to continue writing, either as a hobby or a career. Eventually, I would love to publish my writing, become rich and famous, sell the movie rights to my novel, and live out the rest of my days on an exotic island somewhere.

Look, I'm in nature!
